Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Watch MBW-100

The Sony Ericsson MBW-100 Bluetooth watch works in conjunction with a mobile handset and a wireless earpiece and microphone.

Known as the 'Bluetooth watch - it is connected to the handset and earpiece through a radio link, rather than wires.

It allows users to access many of the mobile phone's services without having to pick up the handset at all.

The watch alerts the user to an incoming call or text message by vibrating slightly on the wrist. The number of the caller then flashes up on a small screen on the face.

A button on the watch allows the user to decide to reject the call and send it to voice mail.

Alternatively, the user can pick up the call on the handset itself or on the combined earpiece and microphone.

However, the watch goes further and allows users to access and control the music content which Sony Ericsson now offers on its mobile phones.

A new generation of mobiles are also MP3 players, like Apple's iPod. This means they are capable of storing a huge jukebox of hundreds of songs.

The Sony watch - known as the BW-100 - allows users to sort through and select which songs the user wants to listen to via the small screen.

These are then beamed from the handset to the earpiece using the wireless link - a communication technology which is known as Bluetooth.

As yet, the technology does not allow people to answer the calls and hold a conversation by speaking into the watch.

However, it seems only a matter of time before this Sci-Fi notion becomes a reality. The stainless steel watch was created in partnership with the designer label Fossil and is deliberately discreet. It is no bigger than many of the fashion watches worn today, or the sort of Omega Seamaster Professional adopted by James Bond.
